Product Description

Switchable Smart Glass is laminated glass with smart PDLC film and PVB film in between two pieces of float glass. It functions identically to smart PDLC film: when powered on, it is transparent; when powered off, it is opaque. The transmittance of the smart glass can be controlled by electrical switching, making it an ideal choice for privacy and real projection screens.

Principle of Switchable Smart Glass

Features and Advantages

  • Transmits only 48% of visible light when switched off (translucent state), providing very high opacity.
  • Transmits 76% of visible light when switched on (transparent state), ensuring excellent light transmission.
  • Variable voltage supply allows for precise control of light transmission levels.
  • Supports flat-screen rear projection for multimedia applications.
  • Designed and tested for high-performance internal applications.
  • Enhanced clarity for projection when using clear and grey tinted glass combinations.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Switchable Smart Glass work?
It uses PDLC (Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal) technology. When an electric current is applied, the liquid crystal molecules align, allowing light to pass through (transparent). When the power is off, the molecules scatter, blocking the view (opaque).
What is the response time for switching?
The switching speed is extremely fast, typically less than 45 milliseconds, providing instant privacy at the flick of a switch.
Does it block UV rays?
Yes, our Switchable Smart Glass blocks over 98% of harmful UV rays in both its transparent and opaque states, protecting interior furnishings from fading.
Can it be used as a projection screen?
Absolutely. In its opaque (off) state, the glass acts as a high-quality rear projection screen, making it perfect for boardrooms and storefront displays.
Is the glass energy efficient?
Yes, it has low power consumption (less than 5W per square meter when on) and provides excellent thermal insulation, helping to reduce cooling costs.
What are the maximum dimensions available?
We can produce tempered smart glass panels up to a maximum size of 1.8 * 3.8 meters, suitable for large architectural installations.
